After the success of last years Rottnest Comedy and Short Film Festival there was no doubting it would be back for 2010. This year with the catchier name of Rottofest and all night events taking place under a big marquee, the festival is sure to keep crowds entertained as well as delivering an affordable winter getaway.

Funk Club Opening Spectacular

In a weekend jam-packed with goodness it all kicks off on August 27 with the Funk Club’s Opening Spectacular, featuring Odette Mercy and Her Soul Atomics, the renowned Funk Club House Band with DJ’s Nandez 500 and Chopper Crucial.

Launch the Comedian Feat Merrick

If witnessing Australia’s top comedians battle it out in the final of Launch the Comedian wasn’t enough for you, Saturday night’s entertainment will also bring Merrick Watts as your MC. Best known as one half of Australia’s famous comedy duo Merrick & Rosso, Watts is sure to have the crowd laughing their respective pants off. With $5,000 up for grabs for the winner, Launch the Comedian is what Rottofest is all about – showcasing the nation’s finest talent!

Search for Australia’s Funniest Filmmakers

During the day the Island will be buzzing with street performers, comedy shows and punters can even watch the comedy skit and short film submissions from the Search for Australia’s Funniest Filmmakers, with the daily screenings held at the iconic Rottnest Island Picture Hall. The best judged comedy skit and comedy short film will be awarded prizes on Sunday 29th.

Rottofest Closing Party

Wrapping it all up is the Rottofest Closing Party. Featuring three of WA’s best rock bands in Sugar Army, the Scotch of Saint James and Emperors, the Closing Party is the perfect finale to this one-of-a-kind festival.

Rottofest’s “Search for Australia’s Funniest Filmmakers”!

Following the sold-out success of the inaugural Rottofest in 2009, Rottnest Island will come alive for 3 days in August (27th – 29th) as Rottofest returns in 2010 to showcase the nations best comedians, filmmakers and musicians.

The “Search for Australia’s Funniest Filmmakers” is a new and exciting addition to Rottofest aimed at stimulating comedy film production nationwide. The competition contains two categories for filmmakers to enter:

Funniest Skit

– Up to 3 minutes in length. The first dedicated skit competition in Australia. (Prize TBA)

Funniest Film

– Between 3 to 15 minutes in length. (Prize TBA)

Selected films will be showcased at Rottofest 2010 and also screened at the 9th Annual Bohemia Outdoor Film Festival in 2011

A weekend showcase of Western Australia’s top comedians as they battle it out in the Best Of The West stand up comedy competition.
